Dear Mr. Cherney:
Although we have never met in person, I can’t help writing
you to voice my admiration for your Jewish heart and your
love of people – this is what “philanthrope” means in Greek.
A man who addresses people who came to honor the victims of
the Delphinarium as “our family”, where “family” stands for
a national and human unity of victims of slander, barbarity,
and hereticism – such a man merits more than a simple Certificate
of Merit, so familiar to us from the Soviet Union. He merits
a simple handshake and a modest promise: “I’m here if you
need me!”
