Legislator's Stirring
Message Evokes Rousing Ovations in Jerusalem's Knesset
JERUSALEM, July 20 /PRNewswire/ - U. S. Senator Sam Brownback
(R-KS) addressed a special meeting of the Israel Parliament
(Knesset) Christian Allies Caucus, bringing a message of solidarity
to Knesset Members, government officials and Christian leaders
who were in attendance.
The Senator called for the immediate move of the American
embassy to Jerusalem, supported Israel's right of self-defense
in the face of Palestinian terror and warned of dangers posed
in the region by U.S. military aid to Egypt. Senator Brownback
also spoke at length about America's and Israel's shared democratic
values and the rise of democracy around the world. "There
are only 46 non-democratic countries remaining in the world
today, and we are on the path to making that zero," the
Republican leader stated.
Dmitry Radyshevsky, Executive Director of the Jerusalem Summit
and of the Michael Cherney Foundation, arranged Senator Brownback's
visit to the Caucus, which Radyshevsky attends regularly.
"We must be united," said Radyshevsky. "We
defeated Nazism and Communism by standing together, and now
as we see the face of that same totalitarian enemy in radical
Islam, we must do so again." Senator Brownback serves
as international Co-President of The Jerusalem Summit, together
with Knesset Member Dr. Yuri Shtern, U.S. Professor Daniel
Pipes and Bar Ilan University President Prof. Moshe Kaveh.
The Knesset audience was visibly moved as Senator Brownback
told them, "Be encouraged. We are with you as allies
in the war on terror. We are with you at the United Nations
and we are with you as friends when anti-Israel and anti-Semitic
views proliferate."
"It was an honor and pleasure to have Senator Brownback
as a guest of the Christian Allies Caucus," said Dr.
Yuri Shtern, Chairman of the Caucus. "He has been an
ally of the Israeli people throughout his career, and his
commitment to Israel sets an example we hope all his colleagues
on Capitol Hill will follow."
